On Tropico Hill Ezra Hamilton in 1896 discovered rich gold ore. In 1904 five mines were operating, The Queen Esther, Exposed Treasure, Karma, Echo and on Tropico Hill the Lida, later known as the Tropico. The Tropico had a 5 stamp mill, the others the equivalent of a 20 stamp mill or better. The Echo and Queen Esther both were idled about 1906.
