The advantage is a more porus grain bed without the dusty grain particles produced by dry milling. This can make a stuck sparge less likely. Conditioned Milling. I was also comparing these two, and ended up with the Cereal Killer mainly because of the use of ball bearings rather than sleeves. The mill is mounted into an old cabinet with an old but restored 1940's 1/4 hp motor, reduced from 1750 down to <200rpm using " and 14" sheaves (about : 1).

The optimal gap will be affected by the knurling specific to each mill, so a reliable "standard" probably can't exist. If one has a mill, it usually comes with a recommended gap, a good place to start. fwiw, the recommended gap on the infamous Barley Crusher is .039". Cheers!

This sounds like the knurling on the rollers might be getting flattened. This can be an issue in commercial mills, too. The knurl not only pulls the grain through the gap, but punches a hole in the fattest part of the grain. Ideally, the grain spins in the process, flinging grits out of the husk. A few thoughts:

They label the mill as the "Northern Brewer Barley Crusher" mill. Interesting to know if Northern bought out Barley Crusher. I doubt it with the other mils NB has and I would bet BC owners wouldn't have any problems getting their mills fix if they had to go through Northern.

At 29 days postpitch, I took a final SG reading and found the coarse crush beer had dropped a smidge to SG while the fine crush beer was at SG. Left: coarse crush FG | Right: fine crush FG. It was at this point the beers were cold crashed, hit with some Biofine, then kegged and force carbonated.

I don't think you need experience with all three to observe the potential issue with small diameter rollers. It's the same problem people have with Barley Crusher. If you see positive reviews of a brand new mill, they can really only be taken seriously after 1000 pounds of grain goes through.

I've had my Barley Crusher for something like 23 years now, can't recall. Been working pretty darn great over that time but there was the occasional time where it would refuse to pull grain. One time it was because the second roller wasn't adjusted properly and woudn't roll smoothly, easy fix.
